Bethany Democrats name Kathleen Schurman its Citizen of the Year!
“I wanted a pony,” says Kathleen Schurman, owner of Locket’s Meadow Farm on Litchfield Turnpike since 2000. She grew up in Milford on the beach, where she’d cordoned off a small area and kept a few goats and other small animals. So, when she and her husband, David Melina, wanted to expand their little animal habitat, they looked north for acreage and found exactly what they were looking for in Bethany. Read more!
Locket’s Meadow is a farm animal rescue and sanctuary in Bethany, CT. We began saving PMU foals in 2002, rescued from the Premarin industry, and eventually welcomed horses from other slaughter, abuse and neglect situations. Over the years hundreds of horses have passed through our farm on their way to adoptive homes. Some have stayed and become lesson horses in our programs while others are used for therapy, both mounted and on the ground. Some are unable to work and we offer them retirement, and give the equivalent of Hospice care when the time comes. All are loved as members of our family, as are all the other animals on our farm, from pigs and sheep to goats and lamas.
Lockets Meadow is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Donations can be made through our Paypal account (type in locketsmeadowfarm@yahoo.com) or by mail at 771 Litchfield Turnpike, Bethany, CT 06524
